MNGT 229 - Corporate Entrepreneurship


This course explores the nature of creativity in organizations and the role of managers in implementing a corporate mandate for innovative and entrepreneurial thinking among employees. Companies recognized for retaining talent and increasing job satisfaction through encouraging initiative from below are highlighted and used as examples of entrepreneurial ventures within a corporate environment (also called intrapreneurship). The role of managers and team members in nurturing and sustaining a creative enterprise is discussed and speakers from companies that have embarked on new strategic directions by actually forming additional business units serve as guest lecturers. Entrepreneurial sustainability within a corporation will be explored, as well as the importance of corporate social entrepreneurship. Students will write a comprehensive business plan for a new business venture within a corporate environment in the form of a CEO pitch. (offered in Spring only)
