MNGT 222 - The History of Retailing


This course provides students with an historical overview of the evolution and development of the retail industry, with references to cultural, technological, socioeconomic, and demographic influences. It explores and analyzes the major changes in retail practices, from the rise of the urban retail store in the late 19th century, to the advent of the suburban mall in the second half of the 20th century, to new technologies introduced at the beginning of the 21st century. Students will develop an understanding of cultural shifts and movements and their impact on commercialism.
