COMM 3312 - Women in MediaArts & Sciences Department This course examines common depictions of women in popular media, including TV, film, social media, journalism, advertising, and music. Using an intersectional lens, this course will investigate how these depictions influence our understanding of gender, sexuality, race, and class. The theoretical framework of the course will encompass principles from the disciplines of media studies, gender studies, and cultural studies. Using this framework, students will explore how messages about gender are internalized by those within media culture and the different ways media creators are influenced by discourses and ideas around gender. credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1100
