ENGL 3110H - Honors Global Themes for WritingArts & Sciences Department Students taking this course will learn to write analytically about a wide field of contemporary literary works by non-Western writers. Instruction is devoted to advanced methods of analysis, including close reading, consideration of cultural and historical contexts, and the rendering of critical theory and theories of the subaltern. The stories, poems, plays, and articles assigned in this class will ultimately initiate broader conversations about such topics as migration, race, ethnicity, labor, cosmopolitanism, cultural exchange, language, identity, trauma, and biopolitics. We will attempt to gain insight into the human factors behind modern political crises and controversies and to approach those controversies with nuance and creativity. Student work will culminate in a final project that integrates research and literature, as well as an array of written work and new digital media, in order to take an original look at a topic of global scope. credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1100 and enrollment in the Fashion Scholars Program, or by permission of the Department Chair
