ENGL 2610 - 20th Century American LiteratureArts & Sciences Department This course surveys the novels, plays and poems of prominent American authors of the previous century. Themes of national and individual identity, the idea of an “American art,” the emergence of the “American century,” questioning of values, commerce and its effects on the individual, the rise and pitfalls of capitalism, and the individual vs. the community are examined.
