CANN 2713 - Social Justice and Corporate Social Responsibility in the Cannabis Economy

Business Department
The Cannabis industry and by extension the Cannabis economy is growing at unprecedented rates in the United States and around the globe. In this course students will be exposed to the concepts of social justice and corporate social responsibility as well as environmentally regenerative processes and will evaluate their impact on the Cannabis industry. Cannabis commerce is being re-legalized, regulated, and taxed, how can industry stakeholders account for the lasting economic and social harm caused by Cannabis prohibition? Who is responsible for restitution and regenerative solutions going forward? We will examine multiple social and economic equity programs that policymakers have implemented as well as corporate social responsibility initiatives at various Cannabis businesses to better understand how we can create a modern Cannabis economy that promotes economic equity, restorative justice, and access to safe medicine and clinical Cannabis research.
