FASH 2317 - Street Style

Fashion Merchandising
Previous Course Number: NEW

This course will be an in-depth study of “street style” and how it has affected designers ranging from Karl Lagerfeld to Alexander Wang. What cultural events or other influences, such as music, have gone into affecting the looks that have become known as street style? This course will trace street style from its beginnings until the present day, including the beatniks of New York in the 1950’s, the disco era, the gay clone look of the 1970’s, to the street style of Australia and Harajuku in Tokyo in the present day. An understanding and appreciation that street style, a phenomenon that many think just happened, instead evolved over time and with many influences, will be considered.
