Academic Probation

Academic Probation results when a student does not meet the minimum established academic requirements listed in the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) chart below. SAP is based on total credits attempted* and the attainment of a minimum cumulative GPA according to the chart below.  All students’ records are reviewed at the end of each fall and spring semester.

Total credit hours attempted

(including transfer credits)*

Minimum Percentage of credit hours completed

 (including transfer credits)

Minimum Cumulative GPA required

0-29 credits 50% 1.8
30-180 credits 67% 2.0

*Total Credits Attempted includes:

  • credits attempted at LIM College (includes all completed courses with an earned Letter Grade or Pass/Fail grade)
  • courses with an earned “FA” (Failure for Lack of Attendance) grade
  • withdrawn (“W”) courses
  • accepted transfer credits listed on LIM College transcript

Academic Probation and Academic Dismissal  are determined twice annually after the conclusion of final examinations in the fall and spring semesters. Academic Probation and Academic Dismissal are based on grades posted at that time.  A student will still be placed on Academic Probation with an academic probation plan, even if the student seeks Grade Repeat.

Academic Probation is not considered punitive, rather it alerts the student of the need to put more effort into their work and implies that the College believes the student can perform effectively enough to achieve the necessary grades. A student placed on Academic Probation must satisfy the terms of their semester long academic probation plan to avoid Academic Dismissal  from the College. In an effort to help the student to achieve academic success, they may register for no more than 15 credits.  Students who wish to take more than the permitted course load, must gain approval from the Director of Academic Support Services or designee.
