ARTS 2215 - History of Art Arts & Sciences This course explores the history of artistic practice through art theory and art criticism. Students will analyze not only aesthetic concepts and the purpose of art, but also visual elements, iconography and symbolism. Students will explore and learn to describe, analyze and interpret a work of art through a critical thinking process. Discussion of artistic form and content are enhanced through an understanding of the context: the social structures and cultural phenomena that contribute to all works of art. Students will view projected artworks in the classroom as well as participate in field trips to selected museums in New York City. credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1055 or ENGL 1060 or ENGL 1095 or ENGL 1100
