ARTS 2317 - Renaissance Art and Culture Arts & Sciences This course surveys the dynamic period in European art and history known as The Renaissance, which is best understood as a series of social, political and cultural responses to an intellectual trend, beginning in Italy in the 14th century. This intellectual tendency, known as “Humanism” or the study of Humanities, was at the heart of developments in the arts, literature, science, religion, government and economics for almost 300 years. In this class we will highlight glorious works of European painting, sculpture and architecture, beginning with pre-Renaissance to the onset of the Baroque period in the 1600’s. credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1055 or ENGL 1060 or ENGL 1095 or ENGL 1100
