FASH 2317 - Street Style Fashion Merchandising From the original rebels of the postwar era to today’s fashion bloggers, this course traces the history of the counterculture and subcultures that stepped away from mainstream fashion and used clothing as the ultimate signifier of ‘otherness,’ only to find that their studied rejection of fashion’s norms is now the bedrock of both runway and mainstream retail. Seeped in fashion theory, the course takes an analytical look at the psychology of street style, as well as explores the geneses and history of the countercultures that fashion today continuously references: Rock n’ Roll Rebels, Beatniks, Surf and Skate, Mods and their offshoots (Rude Boys, Skinheads, etc.), Late ‘60s Subcultural Style, Glam Rock, Gay ‘Clone’, New Wave and New Romantic, Urban, Grunge, Harajuku, Steam Punk, etc. Throughout the course, students will be tasked with creating their own street style blog. credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): FASH 1110
