FASH 2114 - Cultural Connections to Fashion Fashion Merchandising “Fashion is not an island; it’s a response.” This idea is at the heart of this course. The symbiotic relationship between movies, music, art, photography, TV, politics, economics and world events is studied against the dramatic backdrop of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. From the electrified optimism of the turn of the century through the Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression, World War Two, the Atomic Age, the Swinging Sixties, and beyond, students will learn how the ‘circuit board of culture’ sparked every decade’s fashion trends. Students will also learn how the movies, art, music, TV, graphic design, and fashion of the twentieth century both influence and inspire the designers, creative directors, photographers and stylists of today, and will apply knowledge learned in class to produce creative assignments. credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): FASH 1110
