ARTS 2317 - Renaissance Art And CultureArts & Sciences Previous Course Number: ACOM 259
This course surveys the dynamic period in European art and history known as The Renaissance, which is best understood as a series of social, political and cultural responses to an intellectual trend, beginning in Italy in the fourteenth century. This intellectual tendency, known as “Humanism” or the study of Humanities, was at the heart of developments in the arts, literature, science, religion, government and economics for almost three hundred years. In this class we will highlight glorious works of European painting, sculpture, and architecture, beginning with pre-Renaissance to the onset of the Baroque period in the 1600’s.
