WORK 101 - Work Project I

The combination of knowledge learned in the retail course and this nine session career development course are applied in a five week practical retail position. Students gain a foundation to embark on a retail career that can be in store line, buying, product development, visual merchandising, or sales. Understanding the customer and actions on the selling floor are crucial in becoming a successful part of the retail industry. Students will participate in the Work Project I course to develop the skills needed to obtain an internship and succeed in their job. They will spend a total of 150 hours in a sales position in a retail store. Students will also develop a Work Project Report and make an oral presentation that demonstrates the ability to apply what was learned in class to their work experience. This course is offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer. See Internship Acknowledgement Agreement form for additional information.
