ACOM 247 - New York Writers This course explores classic and popular writing by the New Yorkers who defined Downtown, SoHo, the Meat Packing District, The Upper East Side, Wall Street, The Garment District, The Lower East Side and cultural groups from the Beats to Abstract Expressionists to Punks to Performance Artists We begin with the raw realism of Stephen Crane and move all the way to manga, animated film and worldwide youth culture today, in each case connecting popular work to the philosophies, political and historical significance, and the business of producing culture in Manhattan. 3 credits Prerequisite: ACOM 102-Research and Analysis, ACOM 111-English Composition
