Short-Term Travel Courses

Students who are interested in participating in a travel course must complete an application and be accepted to the program. Students also must have completed at least one semester at LIM prior to participating. It is recommended that students have a GPA of 2.50 or higher to participate in travel courses.  Each student application is viewed individually.  We strongly encourage all interested students to apply.

Students travel abroad during Winter Intersession to two European cities, studying the fashion, culture, and history of the selected area. This program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate students have the option of taking the course for credit (one time only) or, if they participate more than once, as a non-credit course.  This trip is generally 10-12 days in duration and leaves right after the first of the new year.

Students study Italian Art from the Ancient through Baroque periods, with a focus on the rebirth and revolution of the Renaissance. Artworks studied include painting, sculpture, architecture, and decorative arts that either originated in or are on permanent display in Florence. The course includes field trips to major museums, architectural landmarks, and other cultural sites. Stylistic characteristics of each period is emphasized, as they relate to the social, political, and cultural context in which the works were made. Students who successfully complete all course requirements earn 3 credits for this class and will also take a 3-credit course with the Florence University for the Arts.  Upon successful completion students will earn six total liberal arts credits.  Sessions for this trip take place every summer and are three weeks in duration.  Accommodations, tuition for 6 credits, and tickets for all museum and cultural sites are included in the pricing structure.

Students spend two weeks studying British fashion and culture in London at one of LIM College’s partner institutions. This program is led by a LIM College faculty member and takes place during the summer semester. Students who successfully complete all course requirements earn 3 credits.

Students under faculty supervision visit major European (London, Paris) or US retail cities (LA, Seattle) to study the factors involved in fashion retailing, assortment differences and pricing analysis. Meetings with key retailers occur for students to understand their retail strategies and business models. Students who successfully complete all course requirements earn 3 credits.  This trip runs approximately 10 days.

In addition, the College will announce other short-term opportunities for students to participate in and these will be faculty led and supported by LIM College.
