Administrative Withdrawal

Students are expected to demonstrate academic engagement in all of their courses from the beginning through to the end of the course. For details on what LIM recognizes as official academic engagement, please visit the Academic Engagement section of this catalog.

Administrative Withdrawal for Non-Engagement

Students who have a period of consecutive non-engagement in a course are at risk of being administratively withdrawn from that course. Non-engagement is measured from a student’s last recorded date of attendance or participation.

  • For 15-week courses: Students are at risk after 22 or more consecutive calendar days of non-engagement.
  • For 7.5-week courses: Students are at risk after 15 or more consecutive calendar days of non-engagement.

Grades for Administrative Withdrawal

The grade a student receives depends on when the administrative withdrawal is processed:

  • AW (Administrative Withdrawal): If the withdrawal occurs on or before the official course withdrawal deadline, the student will receive a grade of “AW.” This grade is non-punitive and does not affect the GPA.
  • WF (Withdraw Fail): If the withdrawal occurs after the official course withdrawal deadline, the student will receive a grade of “WF.” This grade is punitive and is calculated as an “F” into the GPA.

Financial Liability

Students who are administratively withdrawn from a course will be financially responsible for that course according to the tuition liability schedule as published in the college catalog and as determined by the Office of Student Financial Services. Note that being administratively withdrawn from one or more courses may affect current and/or upcoming financial aid eligibility.

Student Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in all classes from the first day.
  • Regularly check attendance records in the Sonis portal and report any anomalies or discrepancies to the instructor.
  • Communicate with the course instructor immediately if facing challenges that prevent you from engaging in class.

Questions about the attendance policy in general should be directed to the Office of the Registrar. Questions concerning how the policy may affect financial eligibility should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Services.
