MPSC 665 - Cannabis and Retail

In this course students will explore the retailing of cannabis and how the growth of both medical and recreational marijuana are transforming the industry. In the business of cannabis, much of the “retail” today is centered on dispensaries. The dispensaries will remain a focal point of the medical cannabis side of the house and in conjunction with industry, we aim to change the terminology to retail shops and stores when discussing the recreational cannabis industry. The term dispensary has more of a medical feel and the business of cannabis is being transformed into a consumer driven market with retail leading the way. Students will be introduced to traditional retailing functions, including assortment planning, store layout and the importance of the supply chain with a special emphasis on the importance of retail in the success of cannabis companies.
