WORK 201 - Work Project II

The intent of this course is to add to the exposure to industry practices and problems students experienced in Work Project I. Three options are available in this five-week, full-time experience: (1) Retailing – generally in an entry-level supervisory capacity where the student will acquire experience with some problems of management and in supervising personnel; (2) Visual Merchandising – an entry-level experience in stores or with display manufacturers gaining practical skills in display; and (3) Management Internships – some unpaid, in which students will have initial exposure to the non-retailing business aspects of the fashion industry, including the areas of merchandising, production, marketing, promotion, and manufacturing. Students must attend several required seminars throughout the semester and prepare a paper for the Management course discussing and analyzing the cooperative work assignment. In addition, all students participate in a required Work Project II Presentation Seminar in January. Students give an oral presentation discussing a problem on the job and how it should be solved as related to their Management class. Fall and Summer only.

3 credits

Prerequisite: Management, 36 credits earned prior to starting internship
