MNGT 222 - The History of Retailing


The History of Retailing provides students with an historical overview of the evolution and development of the retail industry, with references to cultural, technological, socioeconomic and demographic influences. It explores and analyzes the major changes in retail practices from the rise of the urban retail store in the late 19th century, to the advent of the suburban mall in the second half of the 20th century, to the new technologies introduced at the beginning of the 21st century. Students will develop an understanding of cultural shifts and movements and their impact on commercialism.

Prerequisite: MNGT 102-Retailing or MNGT 102H-Honors Retailing
