Experiential Education

The experiential education program at LIM College is built on a philosophy of “learning by doing” and the fact that business and management are both an art and a science. We can effectively teach the science in a classroom, yet the art requires direct engagement with the phenomenon under study and a degree of “practice” to develop the skills required for success. Through the program graduates will identify and pursue career paths that are self-fulfilling, rewarding and lead to greater degrees of self-actualization.

Undergraduate students are required to complete 12 credits of experiential education courses.

Students go through three basic levels of experiential education. Each level is comprised of a classroom component and an internship component. The classroom components, or seminars, are focused on developing job search skills, self-exploration, and strategies for career development.

Level I - Industry Exploration: Industry Exploration Seminar (1 credit) and Industry Exploration Internship (2 credits)

Level II - Career Building: Career Building Seminar (1 credit) and Career Building Internship (2 credits)

Level III - Senior Co-op: Senior Co-op Prep and Senior Co-op (6 credits)

When selecting an internship, students must adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the course syllabus. Students may automatically fail an internship course if they: quit or abandon the internship (this includes accepting a position and then quitting to take another position), get fired from the internship, or fail to complete the required days/hours of the internship. Please note that the preceding is not an exhaustive list of the circumstances that may result in automatic failure.
