Experiential Education

The experiential education program at LIM College is built on a philosophy of “learning by doing” and the fact that business and management are both an art and a science. We can effectively teach the science in a classroom but the art is something that requires direct engagement with the phenomenon under study and a degree of “practice” that develops the skills of the art form. Further, the program is built on the concept that the path to success is a path to self-awareness. Through the program graduates will identify and pursue career paths that are self-fulfilling and lead to greater degrees of self-actualization. This can only happen when graduates have a significant degree of self-awareness.

Each student will be required to complete 6 credits of experiential education courses as underclassmen. While the experiential philosophy permeates much of what makes the LIM College academic program unique, in order to ensure that students are building their professional strategies, they go through two basic levels of experiential education.

Each level of the program is comprised of a classroom component and an internship component. The classroom components or seminars are focused on developing job search skills, significant self-exploration and professional development and the creation of a professional portfolio that includes a career development plan and strategy.

·         Level I- Industry Exploration

·         Level II- Career Pathing

When selecting an internship, students must adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Course Handbook. Students will automatically fail this course if they: quit or abandon the internship (this includes accepting a position and then quitting to take another position), get fired from the internship, or fail to complete the required days and hours of the internship. Please note that the preceding is not an exhaustive list of the circumstances that will result in automatic failure.
