2011-2012 Undergraduate Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

What You’ll Learn

As a student at LIM College, you’ll get a broad foundation of general knowledge, in-depth understanding of the fashion industry, and a strong dose of business sense.

At the undergraduate level, you can study fashion merchandising, visual merchandising, marketing, or management, along with liberal arts and business courses. Whichever major you choose, you’ll benefit from focused coursework and in-depth studies in fashion, and develop the analytical and communication skills you’ll need to succeed.

While you’re working toward your degree, you’ll be gaining extensive experience through LIM College’s network of industry contacts and faculty, who are drawn from – and active in – the fashion industry. In addition, LIM College offers internships, field trips, and guest lecturers in fashion merchandising, visual merchandising, marketing, and management.

Requirements:

  • Both the BBA and BPS degrees require a minimum of 126/127 credits (the BBA in Visual Merchandising requires 129/130 credits) and a 2.00 minimum grade point average. Other minimum requirements: 35 credits in the liberal arts, 79-83 credits in professional subjects, and 12 credits of internship experience. All students must complete the final 33 credits (in addition to the Senior Semester) at LIM College.
  • Thirty-five credits in liberal arts are required for BBA and BPS degrees. College Algebra, Statistics, and Finance are not required for the BPS degree.
  • LIM’s Work Projects give you the experiences, challenges, and skills that take you from the academic world to the career world. In both the freshman and sophomore years, every LIM College student completes a five-week, full-time internship. Students transferring to LIM College in the second semester of the sophomore year or in the junior year complete their internships on a part-time basis throughout the semester. Upon completion, both a written and an oral report must be presented.
  • During the Senior Semester, LIM College students bring together everything they’ve learned. The experience includes a semester long, full-time internship in a business related to their career goals. Students identify learning objectives then demonstrate them in a journal, a group project, and an oral presentation.

Class Times

LIM College classes generally meet twice a week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and are 1.5 hours long. Freshman-level through senior-level courses are required in all five academic departments:

  • Visual Merchandising
  • Marketing & Management
